GENESIS ENDS .... ARTEMIS RISES!

GENESIS ENDS .... ARTEMIS RISES! UEG PRODUCTIONS. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Sadly the UEG productions has to inform the public that we are no longer able to continue producing the Genesis web series as planned.

The group received a Cease and Desist order from Harmony Gold USA (the rights holder to Robotech and all related materials), in-spite the well known non-commercial nature of Genesis. The situation at hand does not leave us with another alternative then to remove all Robotech and Macross related materials or derivations from the website. The genesis trailers and all related imagery, containing the materials in question will no longer be available.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the creation of Genesis project for the past 6 years. All the fans that supported us. And we are sorry we are not able to release it in this form.

We were already planning ahead to create our very own animation. So we are proud to announce the birth of the Artemis project. An complete original science fiction / Mecha animated feature film. Which will be unlike any other sci-fi, with its unique storyline and characters. More information on this new project will be available soon.

Thank you for your understanding.   UEG MANAGEMENT 2010

    Taylor, you better dont

they've been pursuing fans for the opinions they give in their website, they've been pursuing fans for what they say in other websites (banning in both cases) and now they are pursuing fans if they dont like their fanworks

Oh Harmony Gold... You bad, bad eggs.

I would like to launch into a rant about how unfair this situation is, but I'd probably get banned from their website.

You don't need to scrap all the hard work you've already done. Just change some names... Call the project "Astro Plan" or something like that.

Onward and upward UEG... I wish you all the best.

Do not take your Web Site down unless a Marshall hands you a physical Court Order from a sitting Judge.
You are working as a non profit so you don't have anything to worry about as long as your not making a profit.
Advice; (The Watchmen Movie Warner Brothers vs. Fox Pictures)
Warner continued to make The Watchmen even though Fox own the rights!
When the picture was about to be released the two companies settled out of Court and split the profits down the middle.
Do your home work and continue with the project! Don't let The Robotech Masters scare you!

This is a scare tactic, don't listen to Harmony Gold period.
It's obvious that the companies execs are jealous that they couldn't come up with anything better the past 6 years.
    Your concept has generated excitement.
If Harmony Gold were smart they would get up off their asses and come see you with open arms and welcome you into there family and put their full support behind you and United Earth Group.
United stands for something, they Harmony Gold execs are now acting like The Robotech Masters or maybe worse The Invid!

Harmony Gold is a copyright owner or licensee (macross). They have the right to issue cease and desist orders if they feel someone is making an unauthorized use of their property. Having said that, HG isn't law enforcement and you don't have to stop just because they sent you the "order." I recommend you consult with a credible intellectual property owner or three and get an opinion on whether the body of your work qualifies as a fair use under U.S. copyright law. Of course, all this assumes you have resources for attorneys and to defend yourself in court in the event HG sues you...but just to be clear, it's up to you how you proceed, not HG.

Should I take down my website because it also contains images and references to the name, in spite of Im not profiting from it at all either? Can you give me an advice?

Arent they legally inconsistent when they encourage the creation of fan arts, fan fics and fan media (and promote unofficial webpages using the trademark name and images) and later they send cease and desist letters to non profit works or websites?

Very interesting. So now if you are a fan creating a fan fic or a fan work, you could get sued by them. Someone should warn the thousands of fans doing this about it.

Are you fucking kidding me? There have been a TON of fan projects out there that never made money there were okay.

One can only guess what's going through their minds, and here are a few of mine

    1) Someone from the HG legal team noticed this and, not understanding the practices of fan films on the net in the last decade, decided to put a stop to it.

    2) The "creative" people at HG saw this and were pretty jealous by it (seeing as how the animation was MUCH better than RSC) and had the sent the legal team on this site

    3) A combination of 1&2, added by the fact that they're freaked out over the Warner Bros. deal and it's making them extra cautious (and nervous)

But basically, this is nothing short of a huge kick in the balls to everyone who's worked on this over the years.

Were they jealous that your 3d blended in with the 2d so much better then their Shadow Chronicles? I just saw your trailer on Deviant art and my first thought was damn- these guys need their lawyer or agent to contact Harmony Gold and show their stuff off. Then i came here and saw this news. I'm sorry to hear about this set back after all your hard work.
